Ping Gangur

Director and Principal Lawyer

Ping has had an unconventional career having worked as both a Registered Domestic Builder (DB-U), Commercial Builder (CB-L) and has over ten years’ experience as an admitted lawyer. 

Ping’s family ran a structural steel business completing large projects such as construction projects for hospitals and schools. She has first-hand experience of the multitude of legal issues facing the construction industry and the legal solutions needed to resolve them.

Driven by her desire to use her legal knowledge to advise and support construction businesses, she created Level Playing Field Lawyers in 2017. Since its inception, Ping has led her team to many successful outcomes through her passion for both the legal and construction industries. She has provided advice to both the Westgate Tunnel and North-East Link projects and has successfully represented multiple claimants and respondents under the Security of Payment Act.

In 2024, Ping was recognised with the Partner of the Year Award for construction & infrastructure. 

Ping has conversational proficiency in Mandarin.

Bojan Gangur

Business Development Manager

Bojan’s previous positions within the construction industry include engineer, project manager and construction manager, providing him with unrivalled technical knowledge of the industry. 

Bojan is responsible for continuing strong relationships with Victorian construction professionals, government bodies and industry associations.

Bojan is championing new construction technology which reduces construction complexity and the risk of defects. He has been featured on Open Homes Australia, a lifestyle program which brings TV viewers inside private outstanding homes – the episodes can be seen on his LinkedIn profile.

A skilled negotiator and mediator, Bojan can provide advice on building methodologies and assistance in defining defective construction.

Bojan is fluent in Croatian.

Danying Chen

Senior Associate Lawyer

Danying has a broad practice in construction and infrastructure (both front-end and back-end), including advising on all aspects of contractual procurement for commercial projects and construction litigation.

She has acted in Victoria’s landmark court case in the area of Security of Payment. She has also acted in various complex litigious proceedings across all jurisdictions, from VCAT to the Supreme Court of Victoria. 

She holds a Master of Law from Melbourne University and Bachelor of Commerce and Law from Monash University.

Areas of Expertise

Construction and infrastructure (front-end)

  • Drafting, reviewing and advising on AS, HIA, MBAV and bespoke contracts for commercial, mixed-use, infrastructure and residential projects;
  • Contract management, including issue of, and response to, EOT claims and notices under contract;
  • Dispute negotiation and risk allocation.

 

Construction and infrastructure (back-end)

  • Disputes under contract and at law as to performance of, and payment for, works;
  • Disputes relating to defects, delays, extensions of time, latent conditions and variations;
  • Claims under security of payment legislation.
 

Danying is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese.

Caroline Huang

Associate Lawyer

Caroline holds experience in commercial and building and construction matters. Since her family began undertaking commercial and residential property development, Caroline has developed an extensive exposure to defect reports, homeowner claims and liaising and negotiating with builders, experts and engineers. 

Caroline is particularly experienced in contract review and negotiation, lease agreements, contract termination, and proceedings varying from VCAT to the Supreme Court. Caroline has also worked in immigration law.

Caroline is also responsible for administering training workshops to businesses in the construction industry, such as contract entry training, contract management training, general contracting training or training on specific issues that commonly arise on construction projects.

Holding a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Business (Banking and Finance) degree from Monash University, Caroline has a strong understanding of complex financial disputes.

In her spare time, Caroline enjoys swimming, listening to crime podcasts and visiting her family overseas. 

Caroline is fluent in Mandarin.

Johnson Nguyen

Associate Lawyer

Johnson is a dynamic lawyer with a comprehensive background in construction law and employment law. He has represented clients in most Australian jurisdictions, applying his sharp legal skills to resolve complex building and construction disputes in both residential and commercial projects.

Johnson regularly leverages the Security of Payment Act to protect his clients’ interests, ensuring they get paid and maintain cash flow.

Paired with his academic background in Human Resources Management, Johnson’s skills in employment law allow him to advise clients on all aspects of employment in the construction industry, including employment agreements, enterprise agreements, modern awards, and independent contractor agreements.

Johnson holds degrees in Law and Commerce and is fluent in Vietnamese.

Kerry Hines

Legal Assistant

Kerry has over 34 years of experience in customer service having worked as a medical receptionist, co-ordinator and flight attendant for Melbourne Uniform Hangar (Virgin Australia), and supervisor at David Jones.

Kerry is interested in supporting companies in the construction industry as she comes from a family of trades who have experience in construction.

Her area of expertise includes assisting her team at Level Playing Field Lawyers with organising client documents, lodgements, and general administrative duties to help streamline the process.

Kerry is a skilful communicator & excels working with a range of clients.

Cameron Ironside

Building & Legal Specialist

Cameron Ironside brings a unique blend of legal and construction expertise to Level Playing Field. Having practiced law in South Africa before moving to Australia, Cameron has a strong foundation in commercial law and contract management. Now specialising in construction law, he is completing the coursework required to practice law in Australia.

 

Cameron has a wealth of experience managing and delivering projects across various sectors, including commercial, residential, and hydropower. His skills in contract negotiation, project management, and dispute resolution are invaluable to our clients. Cameron's dual expertise in law and construction allows him to provide comprehensive support and strategic solutions tailored to the unique challenges of each project.

  • Shepherd Development: Managed projects ranging from $3 million to $30 million, overseeing areas from tender development to contract management. Cameron ensured successful project deliverables of commercial childcare, mixed-use, and residential projects.
